Garden Mix
Our garden mix is a premium blend of screened topsoil, peat moss, perlite and compost. It is the best choice for building new beds, patching lawns, planting and potting.
Compost
Our compost is locally sourced, aged, and screened. It adds vital micronutrients that plants require for growth, and organic matter (humus) that improves soil structure and drainage.
A yearly application of compost will make lawns, shrubs, trees, and especially flower and vegetable gardens flourish. Compost is intended as a soil supplement, not as a soil replacement. It can be worked into the soil or used as mulch.
For gardens:
Apply 2" of compost to the garden bed area. In spring, till it in to a depth of 4"-6", or, in the fall, simply apply it to the surface. When planting, add a handful (or shovelful, in the case of trees and shrubs) to the hole to promote growth.
To top dress a lawn:
Compost is an excellent additive for lawns, especially when applied following aeration in the spring or fall. Using a broad shovel, cast a thin (3/8") layer of compost over the lawn. If desired, overseed and lightly rake in. Avoid trafficking the area until it has settled.
Mulch
Our mulches offer many benefits for gardens. Mulch reduces maintenance by limiting weed growth, and retains moisture, reducing watering requirements. It also insulates soil against cold in the winter and too much heat in the summer. Finally, it provides an attractive, finished look to any garden bed. Mulch should be spread 2"-3" deep on the surface on garden beds and at the base of shrubs and trees. Avoid piling mulch directly against the trunk of trees. Refresh every second season.
